Canine Nutrition, Pet Food & Educational Consulting
I work with pet-related businesses and professionals who need knowledgeable, independent support in canine nutrition, pet food, ingredients, supplements, feeding, or related research.
Some projects are large. Others begin with one very specific question that needs a reliable answer.
I have worked in canine nutrition and pet food research for more than two decades, with a strong focus on looking beyond marketing claims to the ingredients, nutritional details, available evidence, and practical realities behind them.
If your project does not fit neatly into one of the categories below, please ask.
Consulting & Product Development
I provide project-based consulting for businesses working with dog food, treats, supplements, and other nutrition-related products.
Projects may include formulation, ingredient or product review, nutritional research, feeding recommendations, product development, or help with a specific technical question.
I can also review whether product claims are well supported by the ingredients, nutritional data, and evidence behind them.
Past work has included specialty food formulation, product development, and product recommendations for independent pet retailers.
Research, Writing & Educational Materials
Pet nutrition is a complicated subject to communicate clearly.
I help businesses and dog professionals create material that is accurate, easy to read, and genuinely useful.
This may include website copy, articles, client handouts, feeding information, ingredient explanations, product education, breeder materials, research summaries, or fact-checking existing content.
I can work from an existing draft or research and develop material from the ground up.
Product & Ingredient Research
Sometimes the assignment is simply:
Find out what is really going on here.
That may mean researching an ingredient, comparing products, checking manufacturer information, reviewing nutritional analyses, tracing claims back to their sources, or looking at the published research behind a question.
I also look for missing information, inconsistencies, vague wording, and claims that may not be as well supported as they first appear.
Professional & Staff Education
People who work with dogs are often asked nutrition questions, even when nutrition is not formally part of their job.
Dog trainers are a good example. Clients may ask about food, treats, supplements, feeding schedules, weight, digestive issues, or whether nutrition might be affecting behavior or performance.
I offer customized nutrition education for trainers, breeders, groomers, pet sitters, independent retailers, and other dog professionals who want to be better informed.
For retailers, training can focus on the products you actually sell and the questions customers ask. For trainers and other professionals, it can focus on the nutrition topics most relevant to your work.
The goal is not to turn everyone into a nutritionist. It is to give you a solid foundation, help you recognize poor information, and make it easier to know when a question should be referred elsewhere.
Workshops, Seminars & Presentations
I am available for invited workshops, seminars, staff presentations, and other educational events.
Presentations are customized to the audience rather than built around a single standard program.
Topics may include canine nutrition, pet food, ingredients, supplements, feeding practices, staff education, or other subjects relevant to the group.
For hosted public events, the organizer handles the venue, registration, and event logistics. I provide the educational program.
Who I Work With
Business clients may include pet-food and pet-product companies, independent retailers, breeders, trainers, veterinary professionals and practices, groomers, pet sitters, dog clubs, educational organizations, and other dog-related businesses.
If canine nutrition, pet food, feeding, or related research is an important part of your project, I am happy to hear about it.
An Independent Perspective
I do not begin with the assumption that one food format, feeding philosophy, or ingredient category is always right.
Commercial foods, fresh foods, raw and cooked diets, supplements, individual ingredients, and feeding strategies all need to be considered in context.
My approach combines nutrition knowledge, long-term pet-food research, scientific literature, and practical experience working with individual dogs.
If the evidence is uncertain, I say so. If a claim goes farther than the evidence supports, I say that too.
Have a Project in Mind?
Please bring your ideas. If you have a project in mind, even if it does not fit neatly into one of the services described above, I’m happy to take a look.
Business projects vary considerably in scope, so I quote them individually.
Please send me a brief description of your business, what you would like help with, what you need as a final result, and any relevant timeline.
I will let you know whether the project is a good fit and what additional information I need before providing a quote.
